  3. Alyssa asks -
Hi I am having trouble enjoying The Lost Hero. Maybe it is because I am not reading it regularly. Do you think that there is something I could do to enjoy and finish it or I just don't like the book and there is nothing I could do about it? I hope you can help me.

  4. Hi Alyssa,

I have a couple of ideas and we can discuss them more tomorrow if you like.

I have a question first - did you feel this way about any of the books in the original Percy Jackson series?

The reason I ask that is that I had a similar feeling when reading the last few books of Percy because I had read too many of them right in a row. Because it was over a year between when I read Last Olympian and when I read The Lost Hero, I was really excited again to read Lost Hero. If that's a possibility, you could try putting it aside for awhile and then trying it again in a while.

Another possibility is that you're so closely connected to the characters in Percy that you're feeling his absence in this book. Sometimes we get so attached to the characters in a series that we can't enjoy new books as much if they don't have all of our beloved characters.

Of course it's also very possible that stopping and starting is making it hard for you to get absorbed in the book. Maybe it would be a good idea to put it aside until Christmas break and then read it all at once when you have more time.

If none of these seem like good solutions, we can talk more about it in class.

Thanks for writing and sharing your thoughts about books.
